I'm not sure how or why, but I have a momma mallard, several ducklings, and several as-of-yet unhatched eggs in one of my flower beds. Cross your fingers that they stay off the radar of the neighborhood hawks, feral cats and traffic!
Any tips on how to keep them happy until they move on, and what to do when they're old enough to swim? The nearest body of water to us is a small koi pond about ten houses down the road...

The best thing to do is nothing. We used to have mallards (Dad bought them at the feed store). They'll nest anywhere and fiercely defend their young. I think a cat or a hawk would have a tough time with a protective parent.
As long as Trixie doesn't come over, they'll probably do okay.
I must admit, I was impressed that you kept your word. Given my topic of conversation Saturday, I would be surprised if I ever get invited to another party.
Pretty good post. I just came by your blog and wanted to say that I’ve really enjoyed reading your blog posts. In any case I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!
